Light Weight Silica Brick 1.0

Light Weight silica bricks are also called silica insulation bricks. They are lightweight refractory materials with a silica content of more than 91% and a bulk density of less than 1.2g/cm3. The refractoriness and load softening temperature are similar to those of ordinary silica bricks with the same composition. However, due to the large number of pores, the compressive strength, slag resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. are not as good as those of ordinary silica bricks, but the thermal shock resistance is improved.

Detailed Description

Lightweight silica bricks use finely crushed silica as raw material, and their critical particle size is usually no more than 1mm, and the particles less than 0.5mm are not less than 90%. Inflammable substances are added to the ingredients or a gas generation method is used to form a porous structure, which is then fired. It can also be made into unfired products. It is mainly used in various parts of kilns that require insulation or self-weight reduction without direct contact with the melt, without the effect of corrosive gases, and without sudden temperature changes. It is used at high temperatures and cannot come into contact with alkaline refractory materials. Depending on the material, its use temperature is between 1200 and 1550℃.

Lightweight silica bricks are a very special material, mainly used in the glass industry and the steel industry. In most cases, lightweight silica bricks and dense silica bricks are used as structural layer parts. Commonly used in the glass kiln industry, mainly for the insulation of the kiln vault, thereby reducing heat loss and increasing the efficiency of the melting process. In the steelmaking industry, lightweight silica bricks are used for the lightweight of hot blast furnace walls and domes.

1. Lightweight silica bricks are used in the glass industry - thermal insulation of furnace vaults

In the glass melting process, high temperatures are reached in the raised lower part of the vault. Depending on the type of glass, the temperature is around 1600°C. The lightweight layer is usually designed as two or more layers.
Lightweight silica bricks are mainly exposed to these temperature loads. It is expected that the single layer of the vault (structure and lightweight layer) has the same or similar expansion properties. Silica bricks with a bulk density of 1250kg·m-3 or 1000kg·m-3 can meet the requirements of the dense layer. The next layer uses silica bricks with a bulk density of 800Kg·m-3 or 600kg·m-3.

Lightweight silica bricks can be freely stacked on the furnace vault or bonded with silica fire clay. There is no chemical load during the furnace service life (several years). Lightweight silica bricks are mainly used because the chemical and mineral composition of the working lining is similar to that of the dense silica bricks used.

2. Lightweight silica bricks are used in the steel industry - hot blast furnaces

Hot blast furnaces are often used for hot air (called blast furnace blast), which is connected to the exhaust fan of the blast furnace. Depending on the shape and location of the hot blast furnace, the temperature range is between 1000 and 1300 ° C, and the hot air is in the range of 2300 to 6500 m3·min-1.

This requires calculating the comparison between the hot blast furnace (different component sizes and usage locations) and the glass kiln dome at different levels and various loads, focusing on the thermomechanical properties. For the lightweight layer, the volume density used is 1250kg·m-3 or 1050kg·m-3 (mainly due to their higher strength)
